Superintendent of Schools


East Ramapo's Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Schwartz earned a BA from City College of New York, an MS in Compensatory Education from Yeshiva University and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Yeshiva University.  He has held a variety of positions including special education teacher in New York City, psychologist for Bronx Children’s Psychiatric Center, principal of a special education program in New York City and Supervisor of Special Education for Southern Westchester BOCES.


            For the past 25 years, Dr. Schwartz has been an administrator for the East Ramapo School District.  He began in 1980 as Supervisor of Special Education and moved to Director of Special Education, Assistant Superintendent of Special Student Services, Assistant Superintendent for Special Student Services and Personnel, Deputy Superintendent, and now Superintendent of Schools.


            Dr. Schwartz has served as an adjunct professor of special education, psychology and administration at Lehman College and SUNY-New Paltz.  His wife, Fran, is a second grade teacher for the Nyack School District.  They have been married for 34 years and have two grown daughters, Emile (a speech therapist) and Madeline (a psychology doctoral student).
