AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR NONPUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS
Dear Parents,
We would like to welcome everyone back to school and extend our best wishes to all our students for a year of growth, achievement and success. In our ongoing effort to enhance educational opportunities and assistance for our children, the school district is once again pleased to offer our nonpublic students an after school remedial program at the MIIL Community Education Center. The program is open to all East Ramapo non-public students in grades 1 through 6 who have been identified by their schools as needing academic assistance in Reading and/or Mathematics. There is no fee for students to attend this program.
For the past several years, the after school program has helped hundreds of our children improve reading, math, communication, and organizational skills and become better students overall. The children have a great time while learning essential skills they need to succeed academically.
The after school program will be held four days per week at the MIIL Community Education Center, located at 246 N. Main Street in Spring Valley (between Maple and Eckerson, in the JCC building).
Monday and Wednesday sessions focus on enhancing Mathematics skills while Tuesday and Thursday sessions focus on enhancing Reading skills. As noted below, the 5-6pm sessions are for students in grades 1-3, and the 6-7pm sessions are for students in grades 4-6.
The program will begin on Thursday, October 27, 2005 and will run through Thursday, June 1, 2006. Students may attend both reading and mathematics programs. Parents should be aware that students who attended both sessions of a subject area per week and were consistent in their attendance demonstrated greater progress that those who were inconsistent or attended only one session per week. Please note that there are a limited number of openings, and applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. In order to register, please complete the included application and return it to your child’s school. The application must be signed off by an administrator in your child’s school and then returned to the Office of Funded Programs. Please keep the calendar for your records.
The unique and engaging educational environment at the MIIL Community Education Center has proven to be a vital resource for the district and the community as a whole. We encourage you to take advantage of this District program. You can contact the MIIL Community Education Center directly at (845) 371-6787.
We are looking forward to another enjoyable and successful school year working with the students and schools of the district.
Thank you.
