District Budget & Trustee Vote

Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, to vote on the 2005/06 Budget and to elect Trustees for the Board of Education.   If you are unsure if you are registered or if you do not know your polling location, consult the website page for registration information or call the District Clerk’s office at 577-6015.

To be eligible to vote, you must be a US Citizen, a School District resident for a minimum of 30 days, 18 years of age or older, and registered to vote in either the School District or the General Election.

 

If you have not voted in a School District vote/election in the past four years or if you have not voted in a General Election in the past five years, you must register to vote.   Voter registration will be held at all ten school district polls on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.  To determine the correct poll location for your address you may consult the alpha street list below or you may call the District Clerk’s office at 577-6015. 

 

You can also register at the District Clerk’s office, 105 S. Madison Avenue, Spring Valley, on any day that school is in session through Thursday, May 11, 2006.   Finally, you can register with the Rockland County Board of Elections – your registration must be received at their office by the close of business on Monday, May 8, 2006.  A County registration form may be downloaded at www.co.rockland.ny.us - follow directions listed under Board of Elections.

 

Absentee Voting – If you are not going to be in Rockland County during the hours of 7 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. on May 16, 2006, you may vote by absentee ballot.  The first step is to complete and submit an Application for an Absentee Ballot.  You may download the Application included here, or you may call 577-6015 and request that an Application be placed in the mail to you.

 

An Application must have been received at the District Clerk’s office at 105 S. Madison Avenue, Spring Valley, NY 10977 by Tuesday, May 9, 2006, in order for the ballot to be mailed to you.   Or you have through Monday, May 15, 2006, to submit the Application if you wish to pick up the ballot that day. 

 

All Absentee Ballots must be received at the District Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. on May 16, 2006, in order to be counted.

 

The following propositions with be on the ballot on May 16, 2006

 

PROPOSITION NO. 1

Shall the Annual Budget of the School District, as proposed, in the amount of $178,795,068.00 be adopted and

a tax levied in accordance with law to meet the same?

 

BOARD OF EDUCATION SEATS

Seven people are running for three seats.  Solomon Akerman, Rodrigue Lustin & Eti Lemoullec are running for the seat currently held by Susan Gordon.  Akiva Feinsod is running against Chris Sampson for the seat currently held by Chris Sampson.  Suzanne Young-Mercer is running against Richard Stone for the seat currently held by Richard Stone.  All terms are for three years.
