Job title (two open positions): Alternative School Counselor
Qualifications: New York State certification as a school counselor.
Start date: On or about September 18, 2006.
Salary: $90 per hour.
Supervisor: Coordinator of Alternative Education Programs.
Locations: One position at Ramapo High School and one position at Spring Valley High School.
Alternative Education Program schedule:
The Alternative Education Program at each high school will run Mondays through Thursdays, 3:00 to 7:00, for classes. There will be three class periods per day. Each class period will be 80 minutes in length. Alternative School Counselors will be hired to work two days per week (either Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays), and will work two (of the three) periods for each day worked.
School counselors will work Fridays, as needed, for other purposes, including meetings, conferences, training and special student activities, which may be assigned before, during or after the work session hours.

Job Description
Objective:
Through effective leadership, to establish and maintain a safe and effective learning environment which ensures a comprehensive educational program for alternative education students.
Qualifications:
· New York State certification – SAS or SDA plus any K-12 or 7-12 subject area
· At least three years’ experience as a secondary school teacher
Affiliation: East Ramapo Building Administrators Association.
Reports to the Principal of Ramapo High School and the Principal of Spring Valley High School.
Responsibilities within the alternative education programs:
· Supervises and evaluates all phases of the alternative education programs.
· Supervises and evaluates all certificated and non-certificated staff members.
· Recommends curriculum changes and inservice curricular activities to improve the teaching and learning process.
· Exercises responsibility for the safety of all student and staff members.
· Establishes a school tone conducive to learning.
· Assumes responsibility for all disciplinary actions.
· Administers a full range of school-to-work activities.
· Effects an optimum program of teacher assignment conducive to the best interest of students and staff.
· Submits an annual budget request for alternative programs.
· Selects and provides adequate teaching materials and supplies.
· Ensures that parents are informed of the progress of students and school activities.
· Encourages participation by parents and the community in school activities.
· Provides information and reports as needed by the school district, State and Federal agencies.
· Assumes all other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisory principals.
